A friend wants to study woodworking OR blacksmithing in Japan...tips? | |
A friend (he's my boss actually) is a skillful woodworker ( beautiful boxes and bowls..he built himself a classical guitar of excellent quality!) with a great eye for design. He is interested in becoming an apprentice to a woodworker in Japan, or in studying blacksmithing, which is a whole new field to him. He's very talented...background in architecture. Anyone got any ideas as to where he should go to look for opportunities? Thanks very much.

1Phew, that's not going to be easy. I suggest that he try to contact the woodworking/craft association in his country and see if they can arrange an exchange program with some of the woodworking community in Japan. I posted a link to Japanese Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries, who I think would be able to help with more information.
